What is Cloud Security?
Cloud Security includes the strategies and technologies that protect data stored in the cloud. This includes encrypting data at rest and in transit so it can’t be read by outsiders, as well as protecting the gateway to the cloud with tools like virtual private networks (VPN). It also encompasses policies for identity and access management, governance, threat intelligence and protection against cyberthreats and risks that can affect anyone from individuals using public cloud services to businesses.
Many cloud computing environments face security challenges, including a lack of visibility into their assets that can lead to unmanaged vulnerabilities and misconfigurations. In addition, keeping up with and implementing multiple cloud security controls is challenging to manage, especially as they differ across cloud deployments. Maintaining compliance with regulatory standards across different jurisdictions is another common challenge.
The right cloud security solution for you will depend on the types of data your organization works with, how it is accessed (through the internet or through your internal network), how you want to monitor it and other factors. However, some general tips for ensuring cloud security include avoiding using public Wi-Fi for your data (as it is easily hackable), limiting who has access to sensitive information and using strong authentication.
You should also make sure your staff is aware of current threats and how to prevent them. Regular training sessions and a security-conscious culture can help keep your team safe from cyberattacks and other forms of attack.
