Protect Your Business From Phishing Attacks
Phishing is an attack that uses email or other communication channels to trick a person into handing over personal information to cyber criminals. The attackers then use that information to steal passwords, access bank accounts, and more. It only takes one victim to instigate a large-scale data breach, which is why phishing is a common attack vector and why it’s such a major threat.
A phishing attack can be as simple as a fake link in an email, or it could involve spoofing a website address and impersonating a well-known brand or government agency. Attackers can even clone an authentic email to make it appear as though it came from the actual sender.
Either way, phishing attacks can be devastating to individuals and businesses. The good news is that there are steps that can be taken to mitigate the risk of these attacks.
Encourage Your Team to Be Skeptical
Remind your employees to always pause and consider the legitimacy of an email, particularly when it comes to messages that convey a sense of urgency. Cyber criminals often try to exploit the instinctive reaction that many people have to urgent or threatening language in order to trick victims into taking quick action online.
Also, make sure that your employees are aware of the risks associated with clicking on any links within emails and always check that the destination URL starts with HTTPS rather than just HTTP. This is not a guarantee that the site is legitimate, but it drastically reduces the odds of hackers and phishers exploiting security loopholes.
