Cyberthreat News

From industrial espionage and corporate theft to financial heists, ransomware, data manipulation and system destruction, cyberattacks cause real damage. They also expose businesses to hefty regulatory fines, loss of revenue and reputational damage.

As technology evolves, so do hackers and their tools. More connectivity and cloud environments offer new attack surfaces. And the growth of AI technologies, operational technology (OT) and Internet of Things (IoT) devices can create additional entry points for cyberattacks.

The costs of data breaches rose 10% in 2024, a record high and one that is likely to increase as attackers become more sophisticated. That’s largely due to the rising cost of the impact on business operations, the need to set up call centers and credit monitoring services for affected customers, and the cost of paying fines to regulators.

A growing number of organizations are choosing unified endpoint management solutions that enable them to monitor and manage all endpoints (computers, tablets and mobile phones) from a single console. However, the pervasive adoption of these systems can also increase network complexity and make it easier for attackers to exploit cloud misconfigurations and unprotected APIs. Meanwhile, the widespread use of remote work and bring-your-own-device policies can add more devices to an organization’s network, creating opportunities for attacks like malware. Malware is malicious software that can gain unauthorized access to systems, steal sensitive data, manipulate or destroy information, or hold data or systems hostage for money (also known as ransomware). Other common cyberattacks include phishing, social engineering and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.
