October 2023: Pro-Hamas and pro-Israeli hacktivists launched multiple cyberattacks on Israeli government sites and Hamas web pages in the wake of Hamas attacks on Israel. The attackers used a combination of brute force and DDoS attacks.
September 2022: Iran-linked hackers hacked Albanian computer systems, forcing authorities to shut down the Total Information Management System and disrupting government services. This attack closely followed American and NATO condemnation of the Iranian regime and Albania’s decision to sever diplomatic ties with Iran.
July 2024: A hacker group released a stolen dataset from a Chinese cybersecurity firm. The data set contained personal identification information on nearly half a billion citizens and classified documents. The criminals offered the dataset for sale online, but it’s unclear if anyone has bought it.
April 2024: Researchers discovered what appears to be a state-sponsored software tool designed for espionage purposes. The tool uses firmware implants to stay hidden in networks and bypass native security solutions. The tool has been used to target ASEAN governments and organizations.
January 2024: China-linked hackers hacked telecommunication service providers in Africa and deployed malware for espionage. The group gathered data from victim machines and their microphones.
February 2024: A cyberattack hit the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The incident caused a brief outage at the RCMP headquarters and impacted some communications with the public. The RCMP declined to disclose further details of the attack.
