The Importance of Cybersecurity Training
Cybersecurity is the discipline focused on protecting systems, networks and devices that process, store or transmit information of all kinds. Government, military, corporate, financial and medical organizations all collect and store unprecedented amounts of data on computers and other devices. Much of this data is sensitive, confidential or proprietary, and unauthorized access, theft, or exposure can have serious consequences.
Companies of all sizes are increasingly targeted by hackers looking to gain sensitive information or cause disruptions. High-profile security breaches such as the 2014 JPMorgan Chase data breach that exposed personal information for 83 million customers demonstrate just how essential it is to have strong cybersecurity measures in place.
The complexity of modern business environments also increases the need for effective cybersecurity solutions. Many organizations’ IT infrastructures now span on-prem and cloud environments, with numerous remote endpoints (such as employee-owned mobile devices) that need to be protected. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrated the viability of remote work models and necessitated the need for secure, easy-to-manage options that protect both on-site and remote employees.
To successfully defend against cyberattacks, organizations must ensure their employees understand the threats they face and how to mitigate them. The best way to achieve this is to implement a cyber security training program. This training should cover topics such as the importance of using strong passwords, avoiding suspicious email attachments, using only trusted Wi-Fi networks in public places and backing up data on a regular basis.
