But, with the rate of cyber attacks increasing, a career in this field is becoming more than just a good choice, it’s essential.
Cybersecurity professionals must be able to spot and defend against threats of all kinds, whether it’s an email sent through unencrypted software, a password written on a sticky note in a cubicle or a cybercriminal accessing the servers that keep our lives running. They must think strategically, too. Attackers are constantly evolving their tactics, taking advantage of new vulnerabilities at an unrelenting pace, which makes relying on outdated strategies more dangerous than ever.
The industry uses various technologies to mitigate these risks, including next-generation firewalls, Domain Name System (DNS) filters, asymmetric encryption that utilizes a public and private key to securely transmit data, and Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDPS) that scan for malicious patterns and behaviors in network traffic. SNHU offers a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, and as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, the program meets NSA standards and criteria.
SNHU’s online Master of Science in Cybersecurity has three tracks, allowing students to focus their studies on trusted software engineering, critical infrastructure protection or network security management.
