What is Cloud Security?
Cloud Security is the set of practices and tools used to protect sensitive data in the cloud. It includes monitoring and detecting threats, implementing strong IAM policies, encrypting data at rest and in transit, and conducting regular security audits. It also includes ensuring that the proper tools are being utilized and that employees receive adequate security awareness training.
A comprehensive approach to cloud security must be incorporated into any environment. A holistic solution can scan a full range of workloads, detect vulnerabilities, prioritize risks and offer the best remediation options. It can also incorporate automation and AI capabilities for rapid threat detection and response, which minimizes human error. It should be able to integrate with other components of a secure cloud architecture, including cloud access security brokers (CASBs), and cloud infrastructure entitlement management (CIEM) tools.
A key part of any cloud security strategy is understanding the shared responsibility model and identifying which services belong to the CSP, and which are the customer’s. A robust cloud security strategy should include implementing strong IAM policies with multifactor authentication (MFA) and role-based access control (RBAC) as well as regularly deploying patches to reduce vulnerabilities. It should also encrypt data at rest and in transit, and use secure cloud-native encryption tools. It should also monitor, log, and track activity and identify any suspicious behavior to ensure that all data is protected. Finally, a comprehensive cloud security strategy should include security awareness training to educate employees on common cyber threats and best practices.
