What is Cloud Security?
Cloud Security is the comprehensive process and set of tools that safeguard data, applications and devices across the cloud environment. It involves integrating solutions that are specifically built for the unique challenges of the cloud, including the use of innovative tech that addresses specific vulnerabilities in different environments.
Network security is critical to protect data in the cloud from unauthorized access, loss or exposure. This includes implementing authentication and authorization protocols, firewalls, and monitoring traffic to detect and respond to threats. It also includes encrypting data in transit to prevent eavesdropping and ensures that the right data goes to the right place on the network.
Application security focuses on securing the software and apps that run in the cloud. This includes securing code against known vulnerabilities like SQL injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), and buffer overflows. It also covers implementing authentication and authorization protocols to control who is accessing the applications and what they can do. Finally, it covers deploying web application firewalls to filter out incoming and outgoing traffic and block threats.
The challenge with application security in the cloud is that many of these solutions are misconfigured due to rushed deployments, lack of understanding, or human error. A modern holistic solution must consider these risks and include the capability of using automation to reduce manual errors and keep the system secure.
