Careers in Cyber-Security
The world relies on computers and the internet for communication (email, phones, tablets), entertainment (interactive video games, social media), transportation (cars, GPS systems), shopping (computers, smart devices), medicine (patient records, pharmaceutical drugs), business operations (payment processing, customer data) and more. This high dependency on digital platforms makes businesses more vulnerable to cyberattacks and drives the need for robust cybersecurity measures. Frequent, high-profile breaches highlight the financial and reputation damage these attacks can cause, underscoring the importance of strong cybersecurity protocols to protect critical assets.
From analyzing potential risks and vulnerabilities as a Threat Analyst to proactively testing systems for weaknesses as a Penetration Tester to designing secure networks and IT infrastructure as a Security Architect, there are numerous paths for students interested in pursuing a career in cybersecurity. With time and experience, cybersecurity professionals can also pursue leadership roles such as a Chief Information Security Officer, overseeing an organization’s overall security strategy.
*Security is an expanding field and students who graduate with a bachelor’s degree in this area may be eligible to earn an MS in just one additional year of study.*
