In a world where almost all aspects of daily life have some type of technological element, cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important.

Every company needs cyber security solutions: From retailers to financial services firms and medical facilities, the ability to protect data from malicious attacks is vital. A recent study found that 79% of organizations experienced some sort of security breach in the past year. These breaches include stealing customer personal information, exposing confidential business records or even crippling an organization’s systems.

Cybersecurity is made up of three core principles: Confidentiality, integrity and availability (CIA). A good cybersecurity solution will ensure that information is only accessible to authorized users, is not tampered with or deleted and can be restored in the event of a disaster.

Cybersecurity professionals must be ready to face threats from a wide range of sources, including single actors or groups that hack for financial gain or because of their political ideology. These include criminals who steal social security numbers and credit card information to sell on the Dark Web, hackers who attack websites for extortion or disruption and cyber terrorists who try to cause damage or panic by targeting specific locations, systems or infrastructure. These threats also can come from within a company, whether it is a current or former employee with a grudge or intimate knowledge of the network. This is why a strong focus on end-user education is so important. Teaching employees to delete suspicious emails, not plug in unidentified USB drives and other simple steps can prevent serious damage.
