The Importance of Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity, the practice of defending internet-connected systems from hackers and cybercriminals, is an essential part of modern life. From phishing attacks to ransomware and identity theft, cybersecurity is the key to protecting against the many threats we face in our daily lives.
With more data being stored in the cloud and businesses becoming increasingly interconnected, cybersecurity has become a critical need. It protects the networks, software, and hardware that process and store the unprecedented amounts of sensitive information we are now creating and transmitting.
It helps safeguard employee productivity by protecting their work environments from viruses and malware that can stop workflows. It also enables organizations to meet regulatory compliance standards like GDPR, HIPAA, PCI DDS and more.
A single breach can ruin a company’s reputation and affect customer retention, leading to a drastic decrease in the number of people who will trust their business. The best way to prevent this is by ensuring your business has the right cyber security solutions in place.
TU has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense since 2000 and is supported by the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Energy. Our accelerated Master’s program combines theory and applied research across multiple computing disciplines with three tracks to help you focus your studies: Trusted Software Engineering, Critical Infrastructure Protection or Network Security Management. Our cybersecurity students also have the opportunity to participate in the RedTeam, an interdisciplinary student team that competes in National Cyber League capture-the-flag (CTF) competitions to build their skills and experience.
