January 2023: Hackers targeted government, military and research sector victims in phishing campaigns that injected malware designed for espionage into victim machines. The malware exfiltrated data from infected computers, as well as audio captured by the devices’ microphones.

April 2023: A hacking group with ties to North Korea operated an ongoing espionage campaign targeting defense industry firms across Eastern Europe and Africa. Researchers believe the group shifted its focus in 2020 from cryptocurrency mining to espionage following the Ukrainian conflict.

June 2023: Pro-Russian hackers attacked a variety of European companies and government entities in retaliation for Western support for Ukraine. The attack included a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack against the Ukrainian Embassy in Brussels.

September 2023: A ransomware attack wiped four months of Sri Lankan government data. The attack disrupted emails and online services including government websites and caused delays in public service. The country’s minister of information and communication attributed the attack to India, which had recently accused Pakistan of killing Sikh independence activists.

A high-severity vulnerability in Apple Shortcuts could allow attackers to steal sensitive information and gain access to a device without the user’s knowledge. The flaw affects macOS 10.14 and earlier, as well as iOS 11.4.1 and later.
