What Is Cloud Security?
Cloud Security guards data and business content in the cloud. From sensitive remote work files to priceless home photos and videos, there’s a lot of valuable information worth protecting from accidental leaks and sophisticated cyber threats.
A key component of cloud security is securing the data that is stored in the cloud, including protecting data at rest, in use and in transit. This involves implementing a variety of controls, such as encryption, tokenization and data masking, to protect against unauthorized access, breaches, exfiltration transmissions and other forms of theft.
Another important aspect of cloud security is protecting the cloud service infrastructure, such as securing servers and endpoints, hardening virtual machines and containers, and deploying firewalls and IPSes. This pillar of cloud security also encompasses implementing Zero Trust, which entails ensuring that all access to the data and applications in the cloud is first verified and validated.
Finally, cloud security involves identifying and responding to emerging threats that target the infrastructure, applications and data that are in the cloud. This includes deploying a variety of tools and controls, such as cloud security posture management (CSPM), network detection and response (NDR), and artificial intelligence for IT operations (AI for IT).
