A new threat actor gang has stepped up its extortion efforts, targeting corporate data with mass exploitation of Managed File Transfer (MFT) software. The extortion gang has used the recently patched MOVEit zero-day since mid-2021.

The personal information of 237,000 current and former US government employees was exposed in a breach at the Transportation Department, exposing systems for processing TRANServe transit benefits that reimburse workers for some commuting costs. The Transportation Department says it has taken all affected systems offline and is investigating the attack.
