Advantages and Disadvantages of Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity protects computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks and data from malicious attacks and illegal access. It also prevents theft of personal information, identity theft and financial loss.
Advantages of Cybersecurity:
Protects Personal Information – In today’s digital world, businesses and individuals store massive amounts of information on their devices, including sensitive information like passwords or financial data. If a malicious piece of software was to get access to this information, it could steal the identities of employees or customers and use their funds for other purposes.
Enhances Productivity – If a virus infects a company’s system, the business may experience downtime and wastage of resources which would be detrimental to the operations. The business would also lose a significant amount of money.
Disadvantages of Cybersecurity:
One of the disadvantages of cybersecurity is that it can be expensive and time-consuming to implement. This is because there are many different security products on the market and they all require a certain level of maintenance and updating.
Maintaining cybersecurity in a continuously evolving threat landscape is a challenge for all organizations. Traditional reactive approaches, where resources were put towards protecting systems against the biggest known threats, are no longer sufficient.
As a result, organizations need to adopt more proactive and adaptive approaches to cybersecurity. In this way, they can better defend against the ever-changing risks. This means a shift away from monetary representations of risk to outcome-driven metrics that align investments to controls that address specific threats.
