Cloud Security focuses on keeping sensitive data secure in public or private clouds. A variety of tools and processes can be used to secure data in the cloud, including firewalls, IPSes, and antimalware. Additionally, encryption can protect data from theft and exposure by hackers.

Shared Responsibility Model: Cloud service providers (CSPs) and their clients have a shared responsibility to keep data secure in the cloud. Industry analysts have developed a Shared Responsibility Security Model to help clarify the roles and responsibilities of both parties.

Scalability: Cloud systems are very modular and can rapidly adjust to organizational changes and needs. But this speed can make it difficult for organizations to stay on top of their security practices and avoid gaps in protection that could lead to data breaches.

Interfacing: End-user system interaction is a major risk for both cloud providers and their clients. They must be vigilant to threats that may come from misconfigurations, insufficient permissions setups, or unpatched servers that could compromise a network or its components.

Threats are becoming increasingly persistent as attackers probe networks of large, multi-organizational cloud data centers. These targets are often a common entry point for attacks that can cause immense damage to both systems and the companies that use them.

User Safety: Users must be educated on how to use the cloud properly and safely. This can include behavioral training and policies for safe use.

Backups: It’s important to back up your data regularly to prevent data loss or failure in the event of an attack, disaster or other catastrophic incident. Ideally, back up the data to two or more locations, such as to local onsite data servers or to different cloud services.
